Today's secret word is HBO! The cable network will film and broadcast The Pee-wee Herman Show. Filming will take place at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre after the show's January 2, 2011 closing date. The presentation will air on an unspecified date in 2011.
Comedian Paul Reubens previously appeared on the network as the gray-suited character in a 1981 taping of The Pee-wee Herman Show, a previous incarnation of his live sketch show featuring Pee-wee and his pals. Reubens is also set to bring Pee-wee back to the big screen for a third feature film, currently in development with Knocked Up and Funny People director Judd Apatow.
Directed by Alex Timbers, The Pee-wee Herman Show opened on Broadway on November 11, 2010. The production co-stars Lynne Marie Stewart as Miss Yvonne, Phil LaMarr as Cowboy Curtis, Lance Roberts as the King of Cartoons, John Moody as Mailman Mike, Drew Powell as Bear, John Paragon as Jambi, Jesse Garcia as Sergio and Josh Meyers as Firefighter.
